Back-to-school rewards

Every year as the temperatures start to drop and the earthy scent of fall is in the air, I can close my eyes and clearly see myself as an elementary student anxiously waiting for the school bus. The memories of waiting for the bus, listening to a white-throated swallow singing overhead, holding my new notebooks and pencils are so vivid it seems as if it happened yesterday.

I hate to think that summer is over. Labor Day for just about all of us means back to the grindstone. School begins its new year, religious education classes start up once more.

• A family outing that included swimming in the Temperance River turned tragic last Friday when a 50-year-old father drowned after saving his 8-year-old son.

Thisis the second time in two years that a parent has drowned at Temperance River while saving a child.

Where is the crosswalk on the corner of Highway 61 and Third Avenue West?

You all know the spot I’m talking about: the corner where Java Moose coffee shop is located: the triangular corner where Highway 61 splits off into main street on one side and continues as Highway 61 on the other.
