Cookies, coffee and checks were the highlight of the gathering at the Cook County Senior Center on Tuesday, January 17. Representatives from various nonprofit organizations gathered to hear an update on the First & Second Thrift Store and to accept checks earned by volunteer workers at the thrift store and donation center.

At the Lutsen Town Board meeting on Tuesday, January 17, Mark Pedersen of Pedersen Design & Consulting presented design plans for the renovation/expansion of the Lutsen Fire Hall and Town Hall, noting that the plans are about 95-99 percent complete. “We need to go through them; to mark them up,” he said.

A Cook County Sheriff ’s Department vehicle was involved in an accident in Crookston, Minnesota on January 19, 2012. Sheriff Deputy/Bailiff Gary Radloff was returning to Cook County from Crookston after delivering an inmate to the Northwest Regional Correctional Facility following a court appearance.

Busy times continue for Grand Portage Elders

After a very busy holiday season, the Grand Portage Elders are relaxing and taking it easy for a while. They had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. The Elders are back to their weekly activities, which includes water aerobics, chair exercises, cribbage and cards, Wisdom Steps, Reading with Kids and of course shopping trips.

It helps keep the blood circulating right when the weather is still freezing but the maple syrup is starting to run.
