Jacobsen selected to State All-Star series
Senior Essa Jacobsen
was one of 10 Class A girls’ basketball players to be selected to the Minnesota High School All-Star Basketball Series. Each year 10 girls from the 160 Class A schools are selected to participate in the Minnesota All-Star Basketball Series. Jacobsen is the second girl from Cook County ever selected for this award. Vikings bombed at home against Barnum
The Cook County girls’ basketball team took a dose of its own medicine on Friday night when the second-rated team in the state, the Barnum Bombers, outplayed them in every facet of the game. While the 21-4 Vikings are used to being on the other side of the scoreboard, the 24-2 Bombers showed they are one of the elite teams, if not the best team, in the state of Minnesota. Full Story
Lioness grant to educators supports school programs
The Grand Marais Lioness Club has awarded $1,000 in support for teacher-inspired programs during the current school year. This grant was initiated by President Sandra Hyne, after reviewing the major concerns of the Lioness group in determining their support. Lioness want to commit their major efforts to support youth and youth activities. Full Story
Barnum Bombers outlast Vikings
The Cook County boys’ basketball team had a difficult challenge on Friday night against the 19-3 Barnum Bombers. TheBombers start five players who all stand six feet or taller. In addition, Barnum doesn’t have a player who averages over 12 points per game, so it is tough to key defense against any one player. Full Story

Cook County Hockey Mite 2 team finished its season last weekend at the Silver Bay Mite 2 Jamboree. TheMite 2s were, for the second time this season, 3-0 at a tournament. They competed against Two Harbors

Where are the fish biting?
Lake Saganaga has been the place to go this week, offering both lake trout—in 55 feet of water using ciscoes—and walleye in 20- 25 feet of water using jig and chubs. Full Story
Eelpout Action
We could not have asked for a prettier day for a Trout Derby last weekend. The fishing was not as hot as the weather, but it was a lot of fun to see so many people on the lake. I ran down to the east end hoping to find a fish that had not seen so many baits dangling, but no such luck. Rachelle and I were able to spend some quality time together in my new portable ice house. Alpine thriller at Lutsen
Lutsen Mountains—red and blue gate panels dotted the north side of Eagle Mountain as race number seven of the Northland Junior Race Series commenced under sunny skies and perfect weather on Sunday, February 28. Thirtyfive eager racers from Team Lutsen competed in a field of 98 talented athletes from Northland area ski clubs skiing two runs of giant slalom on Koo-Koo. Full Story
