Historical Reflections
In a recent Taste of Home, our food columnist Sandy Holthaus asked about the origin of the name of Devil's Track Lake in Grand Marais. Sandy shared the story she had heard, that the lake received its name when a one-legged trapper left an unusual trail of tracks—one snowshoe, one imprint from a peg leg. Full Story

10 Years Ago · May 17, 1999 • About 25 people braved the wind and cold of Tuesday to meet and greet two members from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources who were in town to discuss the possibility of a large grant from the DNR to assist with the purchase of Gene's Standard property by the city of Grand Marais. In the tradition of the great naturalist, Edwin Way Teale, I kept a short journal in which I documented the South Shore of Devil Track Lake's journey into spring.
