Photo by Bob Pranis Bob Pranis and Veronica Weadock had a delightful visitor at their bird feeder on Wednesday, May 13, a red-bellied woodpecker. Pranis talked to local birder Molly Hoffman, who said red-bellied woodpeckers are extremely rare in northeastern Minnesota. Pranis said it was amusing to watch the woodpecker, which was really too big for the feeder, as it hung upside down doing "chin-ups" to reach the food. Full Story

EDA continues MPCA negotiations
Several people affiliated with the Cook County - Grand Marais Economic Development (EDA) attended the county board meeting Tuesday, May 19, 2009, where Director Matt Geretschlaeger requested an early disbursement of $35,000 in levy funds to support EDA operating costs. Grand Marais Motors named to dealer closure list
Anyone who tuned in to Duluth television last week to hear the General Motors announcement of Minnesota auto dealerships that were to be closed in the company's restructuring may have thought that the local GM dealer, Grand Marais Motors, had "dodged a bullet" since it was not named. Full Story
