There was a really nice turnout for the Memorial Day ceremony on the lawn of the Cook County courthouse on Monday, May 25. The beginning of summer is a very busy time filled with preparation for graduation, family fishing trips, and yard projects. It was nice to see about one hundred people take time out of the busy weekend to remember our veterans. Full Story

Historical Reflections
We have heard from several readers questioning the identification of the man on the far left in the April 18 Historical Reflections photograph. It was believed to be Irv Benson, but many long-time Gunflint Trail residents say it is not. Long-time Saganaga resident Dick Powell thinks the man is Norby Mayer, who now lives in King, WI. Down Memory Lane
10 Years Ago · May 31, 1999 • More than 300 people gathered at the Cook County Community Center on May 22 for the 46th annual meeting of the local electric cooperative, Arrowhead Electric. Members donated to a food drive, rode in the bucket of a line truck, had lunch and Dairy Queen treats, listened to music and received $85,000 in capital rebates. Full Story
Memorial Day, 2009
Grand Marais Memorial Service: Overcast gray skies and cool temperatures have not stopped people from gathering on the courthouse lawn. Theatmosphere is quiet; some talk and laughter but there is nothing raucous about the occasion. Full Story
