Kieran Scannell All-Conference in Track
The CCHS track team journeyed down to Two Harbors on Wednesday, May 13 for the 11 team Polar League Track Championships. It was rainy, foggy, windy and cold in Grand Marais when we left, but sunny, 70 and breezy in Two Harbors for the meet. It almost felt like spring. Full Story
Subsection Track: End of the Season
Except Senty and Scannell
The South Subsection Track Meet, like the playoffs of most CCHS sports, represents the end of the season for most athletes. Only about 20% of the athletes move on to the Section 7A finals. Of that select group, only about 15% move on to the state meet. Only the top 3% advance to state. Full Story
Lobbying efforts payoff for tennis court
Due to enthusiastic advocacy on the part of Grand Marais resident Hal Greenwood, the Cook County Tennis Association (CCTA) has been granted $50,000 from the State of Minnesota. Thefunding will allow the nonprofit group to go forward with a major upgrade of three of the county's five courts on Community Center grounds in Grand Marais. Full Story

County signs tennis court maintenance agreement
On Tuesday, May 26, 2009, the county board approved an agreement with the Cook County Tennis Association (CCTA) for ongoing maintenance and repair of the public tennis courts on Community Center grounds next to Cook County High School. Full Story
Vikings earn top seed for Section 7A playoffs
The Cook County baseball team earned the top seed in the North half of the Section 7A playoffs with its strong overall season record of 15-3. The Vikings finished their regular season last week with two road games in Two Harbors and Babbitt. Cook County lost 2-5 in Two Harbors and bounced back to destroy BEST (Babbitt- Embarrass-Soudan-Tower), 20-0. Full Story
Stocking Saganaga
We have been asking for it for years, and they have finally done it. Last weekend they stocked Saganaga Lake with millions of fry-size walleye minnows. I would have rather seen some fingerlings mixed in, but I guess it costs a lot of money to rear walleyes until they reach the bigger fingerling size. I am happy with any efforts to bump some life back into my favorite lake. Full Story

Batter Up!
Cook County Middle School students participated in Softball and Baseball Tournaments on Saturday, May 9. Each team played two games, facing off against Moose Lake- Willow River and Barnum. The boys lost the baseball games and the girls won the softball games. Full Story
