Vikings close Track season at Section 7A Finals
Nope, we didn't make it. Going into Friday's section track finals, we had hopes of getting the first state meet qualifier in track at CCHS in the last 20 years. Senior Losha Senty had qualified for the finals as the number five runner in both the 200 meter dash and the 400 meter run. Full Story
Vikings finish second in Polar League
The Cook County golf team finished its season after competing in the final day of the Polar League Conference Championship and then in the Section 7AA playoffs. Jake Sivertson had a strong performance for the Vikings in the conference meet and then advanced to the second day of the Section 7AA golf tournament. Full Story
Spring Jr. Team Tennis Program a success
This spring 56 boys and girls, ages 5 - 15, participated in the five-week 2009 USTA Jr. Team Tennis program. Teams, or groups, were organized by matching players of similar age and ability. Full Story
Vikings advance to Section 7A Semifinals
The Cook County baseball team advanced to the double elimination portion of the Section 7A playoffs with wins over Hill City and Cherry. The Vikings opened up the playoffs with a 13-3 home win over Hill City on Tuesday, May 26. Cook County then traveled to Hermantown on Friday where they beat Cherry, 6-1, in the early game. Full Story
Be a Booster Club booster!
The appropriately named Cook County Booster Club boosts the morale of local athletes by supporting their activities. The club has helped Cook County High School teams buy warm-up clothing, equipment and much more. The Booster Club also raised funds and found volunteer labor to build the beautiful black-ash trophy case in the hallway outside the high school gymnasium. Full Story

Winds and wildlife
Another week of high winds and cold temperatures are making the fishing a bit unpredictable. If you are lucky enough to time the weather correctly you could see some banner fishing days. The wind needs to come out of the same direction for a good two or three days before the fish will get stacked up. Full Story

Walleye Releases Where are the fish biting? According to Buck's Hardware, local anglers have been having good luck in the following areas: Walleyes are biting on Homer Lake in Lutsen. They have been found scattered in 15' of water on jig and chub. Full Story
DNR assumes management of state's wolf population
Minnesota's wolves have been removed from the federal endangered species list, allowing the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to manage the state's wolf population. Full Story
