Commencement exercises for the Cook County High School graduating class of 2009 began on Saturday, June 6, 2009 with the traditional Pomp and Circumstance performed by the award-winning Cook County Band. Dean Deschampe and Geraldine Kozlowski received the most votes in the special primary election for the Reservation Tribal Council of the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa in April 2009. Angler found dead on Cascade River
On June 7, 2009 Victor "Vic" Carl Torrel, 20, of Virginia, Minnesota was found deceased in Cook County after being missing overnight. Cook County Law Enforcement issued a page at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, requesting that the Cook County Sheriff Response Unit (SRU) assist with a search for a missing fisherman. As a coach, I was filled with a whirlwind of emotions this past graduation weekend. I felt the obvious joy of seeing some great young men and women pass through one of life's great ceremonies. The Cook County High School golf team celebrated its season at an end-of-the-year party at Superior National at Lutsen on Wednesday, June 3 by inviting parents, grandparents, and siblings to compete in a nine-hole "Scramble" with a picnic after the event, which was enjoyed by all. Full Story
Vikings fall to the Bluestreaks in Section 7A
The Cook County baseball team had its season come to an end in the Section 7A Championship game in Hibbing, Minnesota. The Chisholm Bluestreaks topped the Vikings 9-5 to advance to the state tournament. Earlier in the week the Vikings had beaten Northland 10-0 and then Deer River 14-5 before falling to the Bluestreaks in the Section 7A Championship game. Full Story
