As a coach, I was filled with a whirlwind of emotions this past graduation weekend. I felt the obvious joy of seeing some great young men and women pass through one of life's great ceremonies. The Cook County High School golf team celebrated its season at an end-of-the-year party at Superior National at Lutsen on Wednesday, June 3 by inviting parents, grandparents, and siblings to compete in a nine-hole "Scramble" with a picnic after the event, which was enjoyed by all. Full Story
Vikings fall to the Bluestreaks in Section 7A
The Cook County baseball team had its season come to an end in the Section 7A Championship game in Hibbing, Minnesota. The Chisholm Bluestreaks topped the Vikings 9-5 to advance to the state tournament. Earlier in the week the Vikings had beaten Northland 10-0 and then Deer River 14-5 before falling to the Bluestreaks in the Section 7A Championship game. Full Story
Buck's Big Fish Report
Walleye Releases Where are the fish biting? According to the anglers visiting Buck's Hardware Hank in Grand Marais, walleyes are biting on McFarland Lake in 10' of water on jig and minnow. On Devil Fish Lake, they are biting in 12' to 15' in the evening on jig and minnow and during daylight hours, on Lindy Rig with a minnow drifting around the islands. Full Story

Snowing in June
I am sure this is not the first time it has snowed this late in the year, but I was surprised on Friday to see a miniature snowman on the railing at Trail Center. It was rumored to have been assembled on the Hungry Jack Road. (See the snowman with the weather report on page 3A). Full Story
