Judge orders Maranda Weber case to trial
A June 12 press release from the Cook County Attorney's Office reported that in the case of the State v. Maranda Weber, the Cook County District Court found adequate probable cause to indict Weber and ordered that the case proceed to trial. Full Story

Council sets hearing for noise ordinance adoption

Persons wishing to add their voices to the chorus of opinions about the proposed city noise ordinance will have their chance on June 24 at 5 p.m. City council decided at its June 10 meeting to hold the hearing before any final decision is made regarding the ordinance, a draft of which has been changed three times in as many meetings. According to the anglers visiting Buck's Hardware Hank in Grand Marais, the brookies in Carrot Lake are biting in 10'-12' of water on crawlers. They are being caught off the bottom during the day and with flies in the evening. Full Story
Firewood restrictions in effect
The recent discovery of emerald ash borer (EAB) in a St. Paul neighborhood means that people should not pack firewood when making summer camping plans. Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Commissioner Mark Holsten issued an order dealing with use of firewood on state land. Full Story

Turtle Races
The turtles are making their slow-motion migration across the roads this week. They are in search of nice sandy places to lay their eggs, so be careful while driving up the Trail. I watched two of them crossing the Gunflint Trail by Sea Gull Lake yesterday. Full Story
