Citizens not quiet about noise ordinance

Grand Marais city councilors made more changes to a proposed noise ordinance June 24, but unanimously approved the new regulations on first reading. If the ordinance receives a positive vote on second reading, scheduled for July 8, it will become effective upon publication soon thereafter. Full Story
Consultant hired to investigate shared facility
Consultant David Skelton, retired St. Louis County maintenance manager, has been hired by six Grand Marais-area agencies at a cost of up to $8,000 to explore the feasibility of a multi-agency maintenance facility. The Cook County Board of Commissioners, the last agency to sign on, agreed Tuesday, June 23, 2009 to pay 25% of the cost. Full Story

The city of Grand Marais has been discussing and debating an ordinance to end neighborhood conflict over outdoor musical performances for several years. The matter seems to arise every summer as the weather warms and local establishments provide entertainment for customers on decks and patios. Full Story

Saganaga to remember Irv
Last week I told you that Irv Benson's Memorial was on the 4th of July. This was not correct, it will be held on July 3rd, which is Friday, at Chippewa Inn on Saganaga Lake. Shuttle service to the island will be provided from both landings, which are County Road 81 (Moose Pond Rd) or County Road 11 (Sag Store Rd). Where are the fish biting?
As the weather has warmed up, so has the fishing! The folks at Buck's Hardware have heard the following reports on local lakes. Walleyes have been found on Flour Lake in 25' of water on Lindy Rigs and leeches and on Lake Saganaga in 35' of water around Horse Shoe Island with jig and minnow. Full Story
Smith earns second at Echo Valley Moto Park
Connor Smith, 15, had a great day of racing at Echo Valley Moto Park in Brookston, MN on Saturday, June 13. Connor was in first place for most of his first motocross race, until he took a spill on the last corner of the last lap. He ended the race in a respectable fourth place. Full Story
