and not necessarily the Cook County News-Herald. While we encourage readers
to submit letters to the editor on issues they feel strongly about, we ask that
letters include name, address, and phone number. The Cook County News-Herald may withhold a name to protect a letter writer, but will never run a letter
without knowing the identity of the author. Anonymous submissions or letters of
questionable credibility will not be published or acknowledged.
The Cook County News-Herald also asks that letters be no longer than 350 words,
however at the editor’s discretion, longer submissions may be published. All
letters are subject to editing for length, clarity, and libelous content.
Loud music ruins harbor ambiance
Every August for the last 10 years we have been vacationing in Grand Marais. During these trips we have so enjoyed the tranquility and the beauty of the area. Loud blaring music would change the entire ambiance of the harbor area. Full Story
Bakk pleased with 3/8th sales tax
On July 1, 2009, Minnesota began collecting the first proceeds from an additional 3/8ths of one percent sales tax that is constitutionally dedicated over the next 25 years for investments in clean water, wildlife habitat, parks, trails, and arts and cultural projects. Full Story
House fire a great training opportunity
The Grand Marais Fire Department would like to thank all those who helped with the live training burn conducted on July 11. This was an excellent and invaluable opportunity for the Fire Department to receive training and experience in attacking a live interior structure fire. Full Story
Obama enables adversaries
President Obama damaged the CIA when he released memos describing the "enhanced interrogation techniques" used on high level terrorists. He weakened the CIA when he said he would release photographs showing abuse of prisoners in Iraq and Afghanistan, but then under pressure he decided not to release the photos. Full Story
