Third Avenue residents evacuated by sewer gas
Residents of Third Avenue West in Grand Marais had an extremely unpleasant, but not disastrous experience, on Wednesday, July 22, when utility work caused sewer gas to enter several homes. At about 5:00 p.m. on July 22, a Third Avenue homeowner heard "loud sucking, gurgling noises in the drain pipes throughout the house. Full Story
Burglary suspect arrested after standoff
A search for a DeKalb, Illinois man who was wanted for burglary led to a brief stand-off with law enforcement on the Gunflint Trail on Saturday, July 25. Cook County Law Enforcement was contacted at 12:20 p.m. on July 20, asking for assistance in apprehending Christopher C. Mentenick, 20, of DeKalb, Illinois. Full Story
