Gitchi Gami Bike Ride August 15
Staff reports The Ninth Annual Gitchi-Gami Trail Association North Shore Bike Ride will be held on Saturday, Aug. 15. It will begin and end in Gooseberry Falls State Park. About 28 miles of the ride will be on the newly constructed Gitchi-Gami State Trail (GGST). Full Story

Grand Marais Idol

The event was sponsored by the MacArthur House B&B owned and operated by Max and Sherri Bichel. Above: Max Bichel was a judge, along with Brian and Deb Bennett. DJ Michael Rhodes emceed the program. Pictured on page A1: First place winner of Grand Marais Idol 2009 was Brad Tavernier of Grand Marais, who won $200. Brad sang Bohemian Rhapsody. Above Right: Second place Grand Marais Idol finalist was Robyn Kellogg who sang Wind Beneath My Wings. Robin received a $125 cash prize. Right: Taking third place honors and $75 was Derek Smith of Grand Marais who played guitar and sang One More Minute. Full Story

One of the ultimate Fisherman's Picnic events is the Fish Toss, which is held on the last day of the Picnic. Folks from far and wide gather on Wisconsin Street to watch contestants vie for the title of champion herring tossers. Full Story
