and not necessarily the Cook County News-Herald. While we encourage readers
to submit letters to the editor on issues they feel strongly about, we ask that
letters include name, address, and phone number. The Cook County News-Herald may withhold a name to protect a letter writer, but will never run a letter
without knowing the identity of the author. Anonymous submissions or letters of
questionable credibility will not be published or acknowledged.
The Cook County News-Herald also asks that letters be no longer than 350 words,
however at the editor’s discretion, longer submissions may be published. All
letters are subject to editing for length, clarity, and libelous content.
Lumber Camp preserves our culture
Having put on my own lumberjack show for 20-plus years I know firsthand the amount of time, money and dedication it takes to put on such a professional performance. Employers have obligations too
Many Cook County employers employ foreign students under the three-month workstudy visa program. This program allows employers to meet hard to fill seasonal staffing needs with low cost educated workers. The program can provide opportunities for students to improve English language skills, experience a new culture and earn a fair income to offset the cost of travel. Full Story
Rec. Park plan is not a compromise
The Grand Marais Park Board has finalized its Master Plan for the Grand Marais Recreation Park and will soon recommend it to the City Council. Unfortunately, this plan - No. 5.1 (grandmaraisrecreationarea.com) - is not happy news for those in favor of increased public use of these prime public lands. Full Story
