Lives Remembered


Harvey M. Turner, 89, of Atlanta, Michigan, formerly of Grand Marais, died July 29, 2009 at the home of his daughter.

He was born Nov. 5, 1919 in Evanston, IL to June and Leslie Turner. He retired as chief product engineer at Donaldson Company in Minneapolis where he worked for 25 years. He then continued his education at the University of Minnesota, earning a bachelor degree in Art Education. Harvey taught in the Mounds View School District for approximately 16 years before retiring to Grand Marais where he had taught at the Grand Marais Art Colony for a number of summers. He also enjoyed his part-time job at Naniboujou Lodge.

Harvey was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Grand Marais.

Surviving are two children, Carol (Tom) Young Ojard of Atlanta, MI and Charles (Cheryl Anderson) Turner of Minneapolis; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert, of Newark, DE.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, and a brother, Howard.

A memorial service wil

be held Saturday, Sept. 12 in Atlanta, Michigan. In Grand Marais, a gathering to celebrate his life and share remembrances will be held at the Grand Marais Art Colony on Sept. 19, from 3-5 p.m.
