County rezoning case on its way to state Supreme Court
On August 4, 2009, the county lost a court of appeals case regarding a rezoning request, but on the recommendation of the Minnesota Counties Insurance Trust (MCIT) and attorneys consulted by Cook County, the county board voted August 11 to allow the case to go to the Minnesota Supreme Court. At the Tuesday, August 11, 2009 meeting of the Cook County - Grand Marais Economic Development Authority (EDA), the housing administrator hired by the authority expressed frustration at hearing that some local government officials had referred to the Cook - Lake County Housing Program as a "shell game. Softball Champs!
Photo courtesy of the team The Eden Prairie Sox won the Fisherman's Picnic Softball Tournament, going 4-0 to add the 2009 title to their 2003 and 2006 wins. Several members of the team, comprised of players from the Eden Prairie area, have competed at the tourney for nearly 20 years. The team also won the Eden Prairie Silver Monday League title the night after winning the Fisherman's crown. Voyageur games at National Monument
The Grand Portage National Monument had a great Rendezvous weekend with approximately 3,800 visitors over the three-day event. The voyageur encampment also had a record number of 142 camps and 300 reenactors. Several canoes traversed the bay. There was a partner's arrival ceremony and business meeting in the Great Hall.
