Lioness 26th Annual Fundraiser a success
The Grand Marais Lioness Fundraiser on July 29 included a dinner buffet, a silent auction and a bake sale, and was very successful. The Lioness Club grossed $4,000, which will be returned to our community in the form of donations. Full Story

Thethird North Coast Fjords Timex 3 Event Day Fundraiser on Saturday, August 8 was a great success for the Sawtooth Mountain Riders Saddle Club. While slightly cloudy and a bit overcast, the weather was just right for the horses and competitors; it wasn't too hot or too cold. Full Story
Intro to Anishinaabe offered by Higher Ed
Cook County Higher Education in collaboration with Fond Du Lac Tribal and Community College will be offering Introduction to Anishinaabe Language this fall semester beginning Aug. 24. The 16-week four-credit course will be held Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6 to 7:40 p.m. via interactive television at the Cook County Higher Education classroom 105 B. Full Story
7th Plein Air competition begins Aug. 28
The Grand Marais Art Colony is hosting its 7th annual Plein Air Painting Competition Aug. 28 through Sept. 6. Plein air artists are invited to paint Cook County from Aug. 28 through Sept. 3 for any or all of the days. Pat Thomas, local butterfly expert and wildlife gardener, will present a program about North Shore butterflies Aug. 23 at Sugarloaf Cove. Pat will introduce participants to the wonderful variety of butterflies that call this area home and will help select plants to attract butterflies to your yard. The free program begins at noon. "Rally for the Cure" raises $3,700
Superior National at Lutsen hosted the third annual "Rally For The Cure" golf event July 18 and 19. It was a big success and everyone enjoyed the warm, sunny days of golf. More importantly, awareness and early detection for breast cancer was the focus for the participants. In the U.S., a woman has a one in eight risk of developing breast cancer in her lifetime.
