Cook County Girls Basketball busy in off-season
With a successful 2008-2009 basketball season in the books, the CCHS girls basketball team has been busy this summer preparing for next season. The PGA Championship
This past week the PGA (Professional Golfer's Association of America) held the 91st PGA Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota. Because of a lucky break and the generosity of a former PGA tour golfer, I had the pleasure of attending my first ever PGA event. Full Story
Have a cigar
The walleye bite has been holding up on Lake Saganaga this past week and we are starting to see some "cigar" sized fish mixed in with the bigger ones. Every reef I fished had life on it, and the best biters were in eight feet of water. We even caught fish with our bobbers set as shallow as six feet. Full Story
Where are the fish biting?
Tyson at the Beaver House reports that walleye are biting Beaver Flick lures on Flour, Crescent, Two Island Lakes and on Lake Saganaga. He says lake trout are biting on Saganaga, Gunflint, Trout, Duncan, Bearskin, Greenwood and Clearwater Lakes. Full Story

A committee charged with making recommendations to slow the decline in Minnesota's moose population presented its findings on August 18. Full Story
ATV Club donates to Travel Fund for Cancer Treatment
The Cook County ATV Club is the latest in a string of individuals and community groups to contribute to the fund started in November 2007 to support county residents making trips to Duluth for cancer treatment. On July 27, the ATV Club added $500 to the North Shore Health Care Foundation coffers for its Travel Fund for Cancer Treatment program. Full Story
