to submit letters to the editor on issues they feel strongly about, we ask that
letters include name, address, and phone number. The Cook County News-Herald may withhold a name to protect a letter writer, but will never run a letter
without knowing the identity of the author. Anonymous submissions or letters of
questionable credibility will not be published or acknowledged.
The Cook County News-Herald also asks that letters be no longer than 350 words,
however at the editor’s discretion, longer submissions may be published. All
letters are subject to editing for length, clarity, and libelous content.
Grateful to call Cook County home
On Sunday, August 2, a "fun raiser" was held for my godfather, Ron Theisen, who is battling cancer. Although I was not able to attend, I heard from multiple people that it was a huge hit. And that got me thinking—not for the first time—about what a unique place in which I grew up. Full Story
Community losing more than a pharmacist
A little over two years ago Arrowhead Pharmacy in Grand Marais was sold to Nikki and Derek Engelhaupt and two other couples. In the sale the other couples were the larger shareholders and in turn stood to make the highest profit. Nikki and Derek on the other hand were the ones that would end up doing all the hard work. Is Broadband a gift horse?
The county board is pursuing a possible federal Stimulus Grant for $33,000,000, which if received, will partially fund a proposed $50,900,000 project. This project proposes that the county build a fiber optic broadband system to serve the entire county. Full Story

Superior National Golf Course and Audubon Sanctuary continues to be lucrative even during these hard economic times. It has proven to be a countywide benefit. Did you know that the Annual Health Care Golf Tournament has collected $312,508 that was given to the hospital for new and more advanced equipment? The hospital serves everyone. Full Story

Many of us are familiar with North House Folk School and the brightly colored buildings adjacent to the Grand Marais harbor and the steady flow of human activity at its site. People may be not knowledgeable about how significant this activity is to our local economy. Full Story
