Second week of bear season stats
Thesecond week of bear season saw a fairly large jump in registrations. At press time, Buck's Hardware in Grand Marais had the highest number of bears registered, 45. The location with the next highest registration was Mike's Holiday in Tofte with 33. Full Story

Army Spec. Scott D. Bauer has completed the Warrior Transition Course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. The course teaches basic skills necessary for integration into the Army for all prior-service service members to fully prepare them for Advanced Individual Training or their first assignment. Grand Portage State Park again closed weekdays
Grand Portage State Park visitors are looking forward to completion of the new 5,800 square foot visitor center at the park, however there is some inconvenience during construction. Anyone wanting to hike the trail to High Falls, Minnesota's highest waterfall, will only be able to do so on the weekend. Full Story

Minnesotans can follow the changing fall colors online this autumn on the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Web site at www.mnstateparks.info. The fall color reports are provided by state parks staff across Minnesota. These reports will also track the changing colors of native grasses and wildflowers. Full Story
