In recent weeks, motorists on Highway 61 have seen large rock cairn signs erected at six locations along Highway 61. On Tuesday, September 22, 2009, members of several scenic byways groups and local government officials celebrated the completion of the first phase of the North Shore Scenic Drive project. Full Story
New Lutsen sled dog kennel approved
A new sled dog kennel has been approved within the county, but this time its detractors were not complaining about its being located too close to population centers – they complained that it was too close to the wilderness. Full Story
Bushes at courthouse drawing complaints
Cook County Maintenance Director Brian Silence has been hearing complaints about overgrown bushes in front of the courthouse. They are overtaking the sidewalk on Second Street and making snow shoveling difficult on the front steps. Full Story

Praying for rain
During the past three or four football seasons, we have dealt with an over-used football field that produces weeds and a barren dirt center way too early in our season. By the time the playoffs start, we are playing on a dirt track with whatever remaining grass we have left on the sidelines. It is safe to say that we had a field that didn’t measure up to any of our conference rivals. Full Story
Gunflint Hills – Lions Scramble a foggy success

Despite foggy weather, the first Gunflint Hills - Lions Club Three Person Scramble Tournament on Sunday, September 13 was a great success. Over 60 golfers turned out to play 18 holes and take a chance at a $10,000 hole-in-one. Full Story
