A mix of traditions and changes greeted golfers at this year’s North Shore Health Care Foundation annual golf tournament on Sunday, October 5, at Superior National in Lutsen.

The Gunflint Hills Golf Club met September 27 to finalize the 2009 season, to elect new officers for 2010, and have its annual steak fry. President Mark Sandbo presided at the meeting and also cooked the steaks.

The other night, my son Adam asked me to open up his tube of toothpaste. It has a funky twist cap end that often gets sticky if you leave toothpaste around the edges. I told him to open it up himself. Full Story

The Swain Invitational Cross Country meet is the classic cross-country event in the Northland. It was started by John Swain, dean of Duluth high school running, and is celebrating its 59th anniversary. Hunting seasons in full swing

Several hunting seasons are now underway. The Minnesota bear season continues until October 18. Moose season started on October 3 and continues until October 18. Deer hunting by bow opened September 19 and continues until December 31. And grouse season, which started September 19 continues until January 3, 2010. Full Story
Moose Season
Thispast weekend was the moose-hunting opener and I have heard of a couple shot up this way. Brenna Ekroot shot a nice bull in the Boundary Waters near Horseshoe Lake with her husband Marshall.
I did not get a chance to see it, but she told me it was really big. I am sure it felt even bigger carrying it out of the woods. Full Story
