Arrowhead Trail bridge gets all-clear
The Pine River Bridge near the end of the Arrowhead Trail has three to four more years of life in it, according to an inspection by Erickson Engineering of Bloomington, MN, if it can get some new decking to hold it over.

Influenza hitting Cook County Schools
The H1N1 virus may be hitting the Cook County Schools campus. On Wednesday, October 21, 2009, Superintendent Beth Schwarz reported, “We’ve had a handful of kids go down today with high fevers.” An instant alert was sent out to district parents regarding the spread of the influenza-like illness. An editorial dilemma
In previous columns, during other elections, I’ve expressed my dislike of the mail-in ballot system. Like many other county residents, I miss going to my polling place to enter the booth with musty-smelling curtains to cast my vote. I miss seeing the political process in action. Vikings win 3 of 4 at Floodwood
On October 13, the Viking volleyball team traveled to Floodwood. For the fans who travel to watch the team play, it was another exciting evening of action.
TheVikings played hard and had some fantastic volleys and plays. They beat Floodwood three out of four games 25-23, 23-25, 25-20, 25-19. Full Story

The Cook County football team earned its first win of the season against the Carlton Bulldogs last Wednesday night. It would be the last time for the seniors on their home turf. After a sensational game on the field, senior Kipp Sande wasn’t ready to leave. Full Story
