Reminder for letters: Letters to the editor, columns, and cartoons are all the opinions of the contributors
and not necessarily the Cook County News-Herald. While we encourage readers
to submit letters to the editor on issues they feel strongly about, we ask that
letters include name, address, and phone number. The Cook County News-Herald may withhold a name to protect a letter writer, but will never run a letter
without knowing the identity of the author. Anonymous submissions or letters of
questionable credibility will not be published or acknowledged.
The Cook County News-Herald also asks that letters be no longer than 350 words,
however at the editor’s discretion, longer submissions may be published. All
letters are subject to editing for length, clarity, and libelous content.
Wish list comes with costs
The projects to be funded by the 1% sales tax sound like a good idea, but… In the past, construction has been funded by the sales tax dollars, but then these buildings/ projects must be staffed and maintained. Increases in property tax to cover? Again? Full Story
Some sales tax projects are wasteful spending

Once-in-a-lifetime opportunity
To Cook County residents: We write to you to let you know that the Boreal Access board and staff enthusiastically support the opportunity of the 1% Cook County sales tax and encourages you to vote YES to both questions on the upcoming ballot. Full Story

Free Bubble Up? Rainbow Stew?
Imagine my shock when I read reports in last week’s News-Herald

No to increased taxes
Money burning a hole in our pocket? Seems to me that is what the broadband issue looks like. I have some news for you. I have been around more years than most, and I have learned there is no free lunch. Full Story
Maintenance costs have been considered
I wish to express in a positive manner my support of the 1% Cook County sales tax rather than attacking misinformation I read in a couple of last week’s letters. Here are some of my reasons for support of this initiative: Full Story
Poor and needy can’t afford another tax
Thecity/county venture in the EDA is a good reason to vote no on the 1% sales tax referendum. “Build it and they will come”—we did that at the airport too. They didn’t come and we’re still paying. Full Story
