Fire demolishes duplex cabin at Gunflint Lodge
Around 1:00 a.m. Friday, October 23, 2009, Mike Carlson of Grand Marais experienced a surprise awakening. He had spent the day clearing the Lonely Lake Trail with fellow members of the North Star Ski Club and was asleep in a duplex cabin on the east end of Gunflint Lodge property.

At one time Lutsen Resort offered one of the only year-round swimming pools in the county. It was a relaxing place to visit after a day of outdoor winter activities, with its pool dome. Awful weather—great running for Vikings
We thought the weather had been about as bad as it could get at Hibbing, but it was worse at Proctor. High 30s, windy, overcast and raining. The team just wanted to get in, race and get out. And that is what we did. On the way out, the bus was loaded down with a lot of soggy clothing and a lot of hardware. Full Story

An exciting season for young volleyball girls
It was an exciting 2009 season for Cook County girls’ volleyball action, with 31 girls from fourth, fifth and sixth grade participating in the Cook County Community Education volleyball program. While the players worked hard on the core fundamentals of passing the volleyball, setting, serving, serve receiving and spiking, their number one goal was to have fun. Full Story
