Fire victim recovering slowly
John R. “Ivan” Pederson was severely injured on Saturday, October 17, by an explosion and fire at his home at 183 County Road 60 in Grand Marais. He remains hospitalized at the Hennepin County Medical Center burn center. Full Story
EDA contracts with city for administrative services

The Cook County-Grand Marais Economic Development Authority (EDA) board read a letter of resignation from EDA Administrative Assistant Mary Lou Haas at its Tuesday, October 13 board meeting. After accepting Haas’s notice, the board talked with Grand Marais City Administrator Mike Roth about contracting with the city for administrative assistance. Full Story
Davison suspended from practice of law
In July 2008, Donald B. Davison, then serving as Grand Marais city attorney, was reprimanded and placed on two years supervisory probation by the Minnesota Supreme Court. On October 23, 2009, the Supreme Court issued notice that it had indefinitely suspended Davison from the practice of law, stating that he had failed to comply with the terms of the probation. Sawtooth Mountain Clinic’s new physician, Dr. Michael Sampson, took a little extra time getting here from Stowe, Vermont before he started his new job at the beginning of October. He took a detour down to Florida to play hockey with a group of fellow alumni from St. Olaf College. Full Story

Minnesota’s Coastal Program solicits 2010 projects
Minnesota’s Lake Superior Coastal Program is soliciting projects for funding for the 2010 grant cycle. Theprogram provides grants to help balance natural resource protection with the needs of coastal communities to provide places to live, work and recreate.
Projects must show a direct connection with preserving, restoring or enhancing Minnesota’s coastal resources. Full Story
