Guard rails go up at “The Pines”
In November 2008, concern rippled through the community when it was learned that a repaving project on the Gunflint Trail threatened the cluster of old growth white pines dubbed “The Pines.” Since the repaving project was being funded with federal dollars, the Gunflint Trail would have to be reconstructed, from Hedstrom Lumber to the Trout Lake Road, to meet federal safety standard Full Story

Vikings tame Lions for first win of season
The Cook County girls’ basketball team earned its first victory of the season with a 72-12 win over Lakeview Christian Academy. The Vikings played a great all-around game to start off their season. Five Vikings finished in double figures as the outmatched Lions were overwhelmed with Cook County’s more athletic and talented lineup. Full Story

The Cook County Curling Club invited the community to open curling on Sunday, December 6 and Monday, December 7. Current curling club members honed their skills and novices had a chance to try the Northland sport. Vikings lose to Spartans in season opener
The Cook County boys’ basketball season opened up Friday night at home against the Nashwauk-Keewatin Spartans. After just seven days of practice, the Vikings and Spartans battled it out on the hardwood with Nashwauk coming away with the victory, 57-46. The Vikings lack of rebounding and poor free throw shooting prevented them from making a second half comeback. Full Story
