The Cook County Curling Club invited the community to open curling on Sunday, December 6 and Monday, December 7. Current curling club members honed their skills and novices had a chance to try the Northland sport. Anyone interested in joining the curling club is encouraged to call Brian Smith at (218) 387-2052 or (218) 370-8167. Above right: Longtime curler Jim King of Tofte demonstrates the use of a stick in throwing the stone. King encourages people who feel they are too old to try curling to give it a try. “Using the stick allows ‘old guys’ like me to keep enjoying the sport!” He said sticks will be available at the curling club for those who need them.
