County board chooses support for Grand Portage over cell phone coverage
Will cell phone service ever make it to Grand Portage? Things were looking hopeful in October when Sheriff Mark Falk and communications specialist Duane Ege met with a representative of T-Mobile. T-Mobile had asked to lease space on one of the towers on the old ski hill above Grand Marais, and Ege and Falk negotiated for that lease to include T-Mobile equipment on a tower in Grand Portage. County Auditor-Treasurer Braidy Powers received a reply from the Minnesota Department of Revenue regarding why Cook County received only $8,754 in sales and excise taxes from the Grand Portage Reservation in 2009, when it had received $72,819 the year before. Full Story
