Harbor View Apartments now smoke free
As of January 1, 2010, Harbor View Apartments in Grand Marais is a smoke-free building. According to Laura Whittaker of the American Lung Association in MN, the policy was adopted “to improve the health and safety of all residents.” Thenew policy means that no one will be allowed to smoke inside the building. The Grand Marais Recreation Park office was very busy on Monday, January 4, 2010, the first day people could reserve campsites for next summer and its mostdesired weekend, Fisherman’s Picnic.

Wetland credits may help EDA budget crisis
With the Cook County/Grand Marais Economic Development Authority (EDA) owing $100,000 each to Cook County and the City of Grand Marais that it doesn’t have the money to pay back, a glimmer of sunshine might be breaking over the horizon. The Cedar Grove Business Park, developed by the EDA, has 5.15 acres of wetland credits it might be able to sell for over $100,000. Full Story
Good year for Grand Marais Municipal Pool
A total of 24,288 visitations were made to the Grand Marais Municipal Pool in 2009, 49 more than the year before. Cash receipts were $65,688.27, up 8.5% over the year before. Walk-in income was $33,931, up $2,673 over 2008, and ticket sales were $7,980, up $1,158 over 2008. Full Story

Curtis released pending new trial
The conviction of James Lee Curtis for attempted murder in the second degree was reversed and remanded by the Minnesota Court of Appeals on September 15, 2009, giving Curtis the opportunity to seek a new trial. Curtis was imprisoned at the Minnesota Correction Facility of Faribault at that time. Full Story
