Home visits available for parents with newborns
Having a baby can be overwhelming, and having a nurse available to listen, answer questions, and offer information can make things a little easier. A three-year grant from the Arrowhead Health Alliance, a coalition of four northeastern Minnesota counties, is providing a new opportunity for families who are expecting babies or who have infants in the home. Council concludes ’09 with final ’08 street project payment
Grand Marais city councilors concluded 2009 by approving the final payment of the $2.2 million street and utility reconstruction project that occurred in 2008 and involved work in Creechville and a number of streets and avenues in the northwestern section of the city. Full Story
Grand Marais residents experiencing frozen water lines

With cold temperatures and little snow cover, some Grand Marais residents have experienced frozen water lines between the city water main and their homes. At the January 11, 2010 meeting of the Public Utilities Commission (PUC), Billing Clerk Jan Smith said the city had received five calls regarding frozen water lines in the previous two weeks. Debate over where to put rocks left over from highway work
What to do with the rocks left over from Highway 61 reconstruction between County Road 34 and Chateau LeVeaux has become a bit of a controversy. Lutsen Development Corporation has requested a conditional use permit to temporarily stockpile about 30,000 cubic yards of blasted rock at the Tofte Cook County Airport, but some of the residents near the airport have objected. Pine River Bridge waits until spring for new decking
People with properties on the north end of the Arrowhead Trail in Hovland – past the Pine River Bridge – may be a little disappointed to find out that new decking will not be installed on the bridge until April instead of this month as planned. In the meantime, the bridge has a weight restriction of five tons. Full Story
Clearer language needed for gravel pit permits
The Cook County Planning & Zoning Department is working on defining some of its conditions for gravel pit permit renewals after recent inspections resulted in questions about what constituted compliance. Full Story
