Thegirls’ Alpine team was flying high after winning two consecutive meets and came to Spirit Mountain on January 14 looking for an unprecedented third consecutive victory. Two M2 wins at Silver Bay Jamborees
It was another great weekend for Cook County Hockey as the Mite 2 team made its midseason appearance at the Silver Bay M2 Jamboree. In an eight-team event, the Cook County M2 team, coached by Mike Prom, Paul Sporn and Grandpa Steve DuChien, went 2-1 for the tournament. Full Story

Vikings win 5th straight game in decisive fashion
The Cook County girls’ basketball team improved its overall season record to 12-1 following back-to-back blowout wins against Silver Bay and Mesabi East. On Tuesday, January 12, the Vikings won in Silver Bay 84-14. Two nights later, the Vikings beat Mesabi East 83-36 at home to extend the winning streak to five. Cook County has now won five of its games by more than a 40-point margin. Full Story
A Tale of Two Teams
Vikings beat Mariners, fall to Lakeview
The Cook County boys’ basketball team split its pair of games last week to bring its overall season record to 3-5. On Tuesday, January 12, the Vikings played well, outscoring the Mariners in Silver Bay 74-51. Three nights later on January 15, the Vikings’ lack of defensive intensity led to a 67-79 loss to Lakeview Christian Academy on the road. Full Story
27th Running of the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon
As the start of the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon nears, mushing fans are holding their breath, hoping for more snow for the 27th running of the race. The 2010 race is scheduled to begin on Sunday, January 31. The first racers will probably appear in Cook County—in Tofte—in the early morning on Monday, February 1. Full Story
