Chuck and I went for our first snowmobile ride of the year on Friday, January 22. With the weather forecast predicting rain, we wanted to get at least one ride in before rain came and melted away what little snow we had. CC HS cross-country shines at Snowflake
On Friday, January 22, the Cook County High School ski team traveled to the Duluth East Invite which was held at the Snowflake Ski Center in Duluth. Ninth grader, Kieran Scannell set the tone for the day with an impressive 6th place finish in the skate race which had 79 varsity participants. Full Story
Vikings upset Cromwell at home Fall to Floodwood on the road
The Cook County boys’ basketball team split their two games last week with an upset win at home against Cromwell and a loss on the road to Floodwood. The Vikings were to play a third game last week versus Ely on Saturday, but due to poor weather conditions, the game wasn’t played. Cook County is now 4-6 on the season. Full Story
High school athletics are supposed to be competitive
I find it interesting that the world we live in is naturally competitive, yet more and more adults want to reward young people for just participating. Whatever happened to rewarding children and young adults for hard work and doing a job well? Our society’s youth are slowing falling victim to the material success of the generations that preceded them. Full Story
