CC HS cross-country shines at Snowflake
On Friday, January 22, the Cook County High School ski team traveled to the Duluth East Invite which was held at the Snowflake Ski Center in Duluth. Ninth grader, Kieran Scannell set the tone for the day with an impressive 6th place finish in the skate race which had 79 varsity participants. Full Story
Vikings upset Cromwell at home Fall to Floodwood on the road
The Cook County boys’ basketball team split their two games last week with an upset win at home against Cromwell and a loss on the road to Floodwood. The Vikings were to play a third game last week versus Ely on Saturday, but due to poor weather conditions, the game wasn’t played. Cook County is now 4-6 on the season. Full Story

I find it interesting that the world we live in is naturally competitive, yet more and more adults want to reward young people for just participating. Whatever happened to rewarding children and young adults for hard work and doing a job well? Alpine Vikings success continues
The Alpine Vikings continue to push through the January race circuit with continued success and outstanding individual and team performance results.
The team arrived for the Duluth Invitational back at Spirit Mountain on January 18 looking to settle some differences from a sluggish performance a week earlier. And they did. Full Story

The recent snowfall has excited everyone on the Trail. As of Monday, we have received about 8-10 inches up here and it seems to continue falling. It started out being very wet, but has turned into some really good snow for all of our winter activities. Full Story
Where are the fish biting?
Rain and snow did not keep fishermen from the lakes last week.
According to John at Buck’s Hardware, walleyes have been caught on Cascade Lake in 28 feet of water using a jigging rappala. At Two Island Lake, walleyes have been found in 30 feet of water using a jig and minnow. Full Story

and women are law-abiding folks, there are a few who run afoul of
the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Conservation
