Cook County workers still needed for 2010 census
U.S. Census Bureau workers were stopping by some Cook County residences the week of March 8 not to deliver the 10-question census form but rather to drop off a brochure about getting hired to help with the census. Full Story

Chilean Relief Fund established locally
The Danfelt-Martin family of Hovland continues working to assist friends impacted by the 8.8 earthquake in February. Virginia Danfelt reports that this week the Catemu House Project in Catemu, Chile will break ground. The original home owned by the Guillermo Vasquez Puga family was destroyed in the earthquake. Merrill sentenced in child abuse case
Jason Merrill, 36, of Cloquet, a former resident of Cook County, was sentenced March 9, 2010 at the Cook County Courthouse after pleading guilty to three gross misdemeanors – two counts of malicious punishment of a child that took place between 2003 and 2007 and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a child in 2007. Thompson attorney asks for change of venue
Richard Holmstrom, legal defense for Kevin Thompson, asked Judge Kenneth Sandvik for a change of venue at a hearing on March 9, 2010. A jury trial for Thompson, charged with kidnapping, assault in the second degree, terroristic threats, and false imprisonment of an acquaintance last May, has been scheduled for May 11-14 at the Cook County Courthouse.
