and not necessarily the Cook County News-Herald. While we encourage readers
to submit letters to the editor on issues they feel strongly about, we ask that
letters include name, address, and phone number. The Cook County News-Herald may withhold a name to protect a letter writer, but will never run a letter
without knowing the identity of the author. Anonymous submissions or letters of
questionable credibility will not be published or acknowledged.
The Cook County News-Herald also asks that letters be no longer than 350 words,
however at the editor’s discretion, longer submissions may be published. All
letters are subject to editing for length, clarity, and libelous content.

Last fall the Broadband Initiative Committee, supported by the Cook County commissioners, Grand Marais mayor and city council, Boreal Access board and Arrowhead Electric board, attempted to convince county citizens of the advantages of purchasing a 52 million dollar county-wide fiber optic system because federal grant money was available.
