Windigo Lodge will be holding its 4th annual Snow Golf Tournament and Beach Party starting at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 27. In previous years this event has been held on the ice in front of Windigo Lodge—it may be a new course this year due to weather

John at Buck’s Hardware said March 23 that there has been some success with bringing in lake trout: On Trout Lake in 25 feet of water using wax worms or minnows and jig, and rainbows just under the ice; and on Clear Water Lake in 35 feet of water using jig and minnows. Full Story
Cook County 2010 fishing closures will protect spawning walleye
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will temporarily close several fishing areas in Cook County during the beginning of the 2010 fishing season to protect concentrations of spawning walleye. Closures on Minnesota-Ontario waters are made in cooperation with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and affect both sides of the border. Full Story
DNR releases baiting numbers
TheMinnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has finalized information related to baiting violations that were investigated by Minnesota conservation officers during the 2009 deer seasons.
Conservation officers received 545 baiting complaints during the 2009 deer seasons (archery, firearms, and muzzleloader), resulting in 129 citations being issued and 140 firearms seized. Full Story

Because of wet, soft trail conditions, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is temporarily closing trails in the Pine Island, Smokey Bear, Koochiching and Kabetogama state forests to off-highway vehicle (OHV) travel. Full Story
Spring curling at Cook County rink
Curling was alive and well in Cook County the weekend of March 12 and 13 as the Cook County Curling Club hosted its annual open curling bonspiel. A total of 11 teams participated in the weekendlong event with five teams from Canada, one from St. Paul, and five local teams. Full Story
