Grand Portage Tribal Council seat goes to Hull

Robert “Rob” Hull won the election for a vacant Grand Portage Reservation Tribal Council (RTC) seat in the primary election held Tuesday, March 30, 2010. Because Hull received over 50% of the vote, he immediately wins the vacant RTC councilman seat. He will not have to run again in the general election on June 8. Full Story

Computers can drive a person crazy. It seems that they somehow intuitively know when you need them most—and that is when they freeze up, lock up, shut down, or refuse to cooperate in some way. I had known Luke for almost two years. He was a young man in his early twenties who struggled with cystic fibrosis. Hard hit by the disease, Luke spent most of the last 18 months of his life in the hospital. I was the chaplain assigned to his care unit. It was hard to watch him as the disease progressed slowly to its inevitable conclusion. Full Story

Zimmer competes at Junior Olympics
Anders Zimmer, 14, of Grand Marais, competed at the Junior Olympics held in Vail and Beaver Creek, Colorado on March 3 - 10, under sunny blue skies and temps that reached in the 60s. The Junior Olympics bring together the top 90 racers ages 13 to 15 years old across the United States, and Vail rolls out the red carpet for the young skiers. Full Story

Up and coming hoopsters! The 4th and 5th grade boys’ basketball team had a great season, finishing 2-2. The team ended the season with a round robin tournament in Silver Bay against Aurora and Silver Bay. Coach Rod Dockan said the kids learned the fundamentals and had a lot fun. “I hope these fine lads will stick with the sport,” he said. Full Story

Creating a Basketball Court
I am in the planning stages of creating a basketball court for my kids. While they are still young and not quite ready for a standard hoop, I know all of my kids would spend time shooting hoops if they had a court to play on. Full Story
