The weather the last few weeks has been perfect for hiking. Sunny, but cool. Last Friday I enjoyed a hike along the Brule River in Hovland with my cousins from Washington state, Joel and Lori, daughter-in-law Sara, granddaughter Genevieve and her little friend, Allie. Full Story
Faith in crisis
Annette and John Tibbet and their family made their home in a larger city of the Deep South. Theywere prosperous leaders in the community and regularly attended a local church. Their oldest son Wesley was turning 13 and had planned to enter junior high that fall. But all of the family’s plans were put on hold when 10-year-old Darren was diagnosed with leukemia. Full Story

Down Memory Lane

• George Morrison, perhaps the most celebrated Native American artist of this generation, died at the North Shore Hospital and Care Center on the morning of April 17, 2000.
Morrison was born Sept. 30, 1919 in Chippewa City near Grand Marais. He was the third of 12 children. Full Story

Fire awareness season
The Sea Gull River has managed to collect enough water to attract spawning walleyes. It is hard to imagine that the river has any water in at all, but it does. We spent some time on Gull Lake working this week and although I tried, I did not see any fish along the shorelines, but I have heard they are in the river already. Full Story
