Gunflint Green Up to release trees
With the advent of an early and much welcomed spring, the 3rd annual Gunflint Green Up couldn’t be coming at a better time.
Instead of concentrating on planting trees this year, volunteers will “release” trees on May 7 and May 8. “That’s cutting away the competing vegetation to let the sunshine in,” said Nancy Seaton, event coordinator. Full Story

Pat Farrell from Shakopee, MN, had a great fishing weekend while staying at Lutsen Resort. Farrell was guided by Bruce Zimpel and caught some brook trout on the upper stretch of an area river. He is pictured here with a 16-inch and 14-inch trout, the largest he has ever caught. Full Story
Wolves on the Gunflint
Dewey Pihlman, who lives on Seagull River near the end of the Gunflint Trail, shared this late evening photo of a wolf in his neighborhood. Pihlman has seen several deer near Gunflint Lake since last November, so when he first spotted animals along the road, he thought it was the deer. As he slowed down, he was surprised to see two wolves, one on each side of the road. Full Story
DNR waits for petition decision on delisting Minnesota gray wolf
The Minnesota gray wolf should be removed from the federal government’s endangered and threatened species list and returned to state management, according to a petition filed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Full Story
