Vikings split pair of North Shore rival games
The Cook County baseball team lost a tough game to Silver Bay early in the week before getting a key win against the Two Harbors Agates. On Tuesday, April 20, the Vikings lost at home to Silver Bay, 10-6. Two days later in Two Harbors, Cook County won a closely contested game, 5-2. The Vikings are now 4-2 on the season. Full Story
Track opens at Polar Indoor Meet
TheViking track team opened its 2010 season at the Polar League Indoor meet at UWS on March 27. We hadn’t been able to run the indoor meet the last few years, since it has been scheduled during spring break. Ironically, the beautiful spring weather this year meant we hadn’t run indoors this year, something we did up to the end of April last year. Full Story
Earth Day event a success
Over 75 people turned out to participate in cleanup on the Grand Marais waterfront on Thursday, April 22, the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. Church groups, Girl Scouts, the Grand Marais Chamber of Commerce, North House Folk School, the US Forest Service, members of Harbor Friends and the Grand Marais Business Council lent a hand. Vikings lose heartbreaker to Duluth Marshall
The Cook County softball team had a busy week of softball, playing four games in four days. TheVikings faced a wealth of tough opponents as they came up short against Silver Bay, 13-1; Two Harbors, 9-3; Barnum, 22-1; and then suffered a heartbreaking loss to Duluth Marshall, 14-13. The Vikings are now 2-6 on the season.
