Reminder for letters: Letters to the editor, columns, and cartoons are all the opinions of the contributors
and not necessarily the Cook County News-Herald. While we encourage readers
to submit letters to the editor on issues they feel strongly about, we ask that
letters include name, address, and phone number. The Cook County News-Herald may withhold a name to protect a letter writer, but will never run a letter
without knowing the identity of the author. Anonymous submissions or letters of
questionable credibility will not be published or acknowledged.
The Cook County News-Herald also asks that letters be no longer than 350 words,
however at the editor’s discretion, longer submissions may be published. All
letters are subject to editing for length, clarity, and libelous content.
Commissioners should do their homework
Fifteen years ago during the Stony Johnson garage and septic trial, the late commissioner Wes Hedstrom started educating me on pollution caused by septics. In his data were aerial photos of local lakes and visible pollution in front of homes with failing septics. It’s real and both a popular and unpopular subject because many drink lake water and because of the high cost of septics. Full Story

TheBoard of Directors, North Shore Trade and Tech made a recent plea for school levy support in order to make available technology and trade education for the 2/3 of graduates who aren’t college bound. Without this education, students may be unprepared to fill potential skilled jobs. Theyfear the area could become a retirement community. Full Story
