Vikings lose to Bulldogs
The Cook County softball season came to an end this past week when the Vikings lost to the Carlton Bulldogs, 22-3 in the first round of the Section 7A playoffs. Preceding the playoff game in Carlton, Cook County lost its regular season game in Albrook, 8-2. The Vikings finish the season with a 3-12 overall record. Full Story

The track season ended for most of the CCHS track team on Wednesday, May 26 at the Section 7A semifinals at UMD. A glorious spring day—sunny, breezy and warm provided a gorgeous backdrop for the over 300 athletes at this 16-team meet. Full Story

The 2010 fishing season started out pretty slow, but the bite has quickly turned around. ThisMemorial weekend gave us some beautiful weather and a pretty good walleye bite to boot. It wasn’t fast and furious, but it was back to normal. Full Story

Memorial Day weekend brought sunshine and success to area anglers.
Fishermen are finding walleye on Lake Saganaga in 6 -10 feet of water around weed beds and reefs using a jig and minnow. There are also schools of small walleye in 55 – 60 feet of water. Full Story
Wolf de-listing sought by local politicos
Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Congressman Jim Oberstar are asking for a federal review to determine if the gray wolf in Minnesota should remain on the endangered species list. Minnesota’s wolf population has doubled over the past two decades and packs are now ranging as far south as the Mora area in Kanabec County.

Vikings clip Cardinals in first round of Playoffs
The Cook County baseball team played three games this past week. On Tuesday, May 25, the Vikings played a doubleheader against a Thunder Bay select team that is comprised of the best talent in the greater Thunder Bay area. Neither game against Thunder Bay went against the overall season record. Cook County lost the first game 12-10 before getting ten-runned in the second game 12-0. Full Story
