Standing ovations at CCHS 100th anniversary commencement
The 2010 Cook County High School 100th anniversary commencement involved a lot of standing ovations.
There was one for Mable Stolz, believed to be the school’s oldest living graduate— Class of 1929. Mable was there, sitting in the front row, and when her name was called, she walked to the center of the gymnasium and waved at the crowds filling the stands. Full Story

Courthouse rain garden may get washed away into history
Don Wilson, commander of American Legion Post 413, does not think the rain garden installed outside the courthouse last summer is a suitable addition to the grounds upon which Cook County’s Veterans Memorial stands. He was not alone in his thinking about the new look of the courthouse lawn at the Memorial Day ceremony May 31. Full Story

It is interesting to hear that the Grand Marais/Cook County High School has been holding graduation ceremonies for 100 years. Although it shouldn’t surprise me, as my own graduation from CCHS was 35 years ago. Full Story

Vikings' season comes to an end in Floodwood
TheCook County baseball season came to a close for the seventhseeded Vikings last week when they lost to second-seeded Floodwood, 8-2. The Vikings ended the season with a 6-11 record.
On Wednesday, June 2, the Vikings traveled to Floodwood. Earlier in the season, the Vikings played in a high-scoring game against the Polar Bears where they came up short one run, 11-10. Full Story
On the links with Twiest
Just last week, Cook County junior Zack Twiest qualified for the state golf tournament. Twiest will compete on June 16 and 17 at Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker, Minnesota. Twiest will be one of 87 qualifying golfers competing in the Class A state golf tournament. Full Story
