Explorers and paddlers featured at Boat Show
Minnesota’s Bob O’ Hara is a name known to many experienced canoeists and explorers. In fact, he may be the most well traveled Arctic canoeist of all time. O’Hara has canoed 27 “far north” rivers, many above the Arctic Circle. In his spare time he has spent portions of the last 52 years paddling the Boundary Water Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW). The sight of the burgundy sails of North House Folk School's Hjordis
is a welcome sign of summer for North Shore residents. It is a treat to see the big ship sailing in the harbor from any vantage point—at the east or west breakwalls, on the cobblestone beach or while enjoying a cup of coffee at Java Moose or lunch at Angry Trout. Full Story

Eric Simula will be one of the featured speakers at the 13th annual North House Wooden Boat Show & Summer Solstice Festival.
Simula, a birch bark canoe historian and Grand Portage Monument interpreter (and parttime North House instructor) will share his expertise with enthusiasts and fans beginning Friday at 3 p.m. Full Story
A chowder experience
TheLake Superior Chowder Experience, formerly known as the Chowder Chowdown or Chowder Challenge, is taking place Saturday, June 19 from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. Wooden Boat Show attendees are invited to stop by and for $10 sample a variety of chowders brought to North House by a talented cadre of cooks and chefs. There's something for everyone at the boat show
From noon to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday there will be traditional craft workshops located all over the North House Folk School campus. This is your chance to meet the instructors, to taste, touch, feel, and witness techniques and traditions of these crafts. This is your chance to try your hand at making something you can’t make without professional instruction. Full Story
