Weight Watchers walk-it
On June 2, 2010 fourteen Weight Watchers members participated in the second annual walk-it challenge. This challenge began the week of April 4, 2010. For six weeks, Weight Watchers offered members a step-by-step training guide to build their walking endurance to be able to walk a 5k, or 3.1 miles, by June 6. Full Story

Two Grand Marais students have been named to the spring 2010 Bemidji State University dean’s list: Heather
Kemp
and Kristen Bockovich.
Bemidji State students carrying 12 or more semester hours during any one term and earning at least 3.25 (B-plus) grade point averages are placed on the dean’s list. Full Story

Chelgren graduates from Montana State
On May 8, 2010, Kara (Johnson) Chelgren graduated with honors from Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana, receiving a degree in agro-ecology. Kara and Trey continue to live and work in the Bozeman area.
Kara is a 2003 graduate of Cook County High school and is the daughter of Bruce and Cheryl Johnson of Grand Marais. Full Story

Crystal Garvin
of Bellingham, Washington graduated with honors on June 18, 2010 from Whatcom Community College in Bellingham with an associate of arts degree in early childhood education. Full Story
Kipp Sande awarded $5,000 scholarship
Kipp Sande,
a 2010 Cook County High School graduate, has been awarded a $5,000 scholarship from the Marshall H. and Nellie Alworth Memorial Fund.
Kipp will be a member of the freshman class at the University of Minnesota this fall, majoring in civil engineering. He is the son of Steve and Nancy Sande of Grand Marais. Full Story
Holmen receives Gilmore scholarship
This is the first year the Marguerite Gilmore Scholarship has been awarded and a Cook County High School graduate,
Drew Holmen
of Grand Marais, is among the recipients. Holmen will receive a $10,000 scholarship, renewable for up to four years. Full Story
Lumber Camp coming back to Fisherman’s Picnic!
Thanks to the Grand Marais Lions and a number of other generous sponsors, the Fisherman’s Picnic Lumber Camp will return in 2010!
The site will host sawmill demonstrations, log rolling, chopping, cross-cut sawing, stock sawing, and axe throwing. Come and learn about renewable resources, alternative energy, timber history, lumberjack sports and life in the lumber camps. Full Story
