Republicans hold county convention
About a dozen hearty Republicans ventured from their homes on a cold March 1st evening to attend the local party’s yearly organizational meeting held at the Cook County Community Senior Center. This meeting was held to elect people to local office and to hear updates from elected representatives who serve Minnesota in Washington. Full Story
CCVB: evolving and changing?
Learning that changes had been made and that Diane Brostrom- Lesman had left the Cook County Visitor’s Bureau (CCVB) in mid-February led some community members to ask why. Just under a year ago the CCVB happily announced that it was opening its doors at the corner of 5th Avenue and Highway 61 and introduced its “team,” of which Lesman was a member. Why the change? Vehicles stranded after wrong turns onto snowmobile trails
At least twice in February motorists went astray and got stuck on area snowmobile trails. Groomers from local snowmobile clubs were called into service to rescue the stranded drivers. Full Story

M2s wrap up season at Silver Bay
The Cook County Mite 2s played their last jamboree of the season in Silver Bay the weekend of Feb. 19 - 20. The first game was against Two Harbors. We came out very strong against a tough, talented offensive team. Things started getting tense when TH wasn’t able to score on Goalie Chase Gwash after 40 tries. Full Story

It is hard to believe, but tonight is the end of another regular season. While basketball season is the longest of any sports season, when it begins winding down, I am constantly amazed at how fast it seemed to go by. While this will conclude my 14th regular season as a high school basketball coach, in many ways, this year’s team made it as alive and exciting as my first. Full Story
Vikings lose to Barnum 55-42
Cook County High School Sophomore guard Kale Boomer had a breakout game against a very good Barnum team in Barnum last Friday night, but it wasn’t enough to beat back the 18-5 Bombers.
“Kale played his best game of the year and is playing how I envision him to be from this point forward. He plays without fear and we need more of that kind of play,” said Head Coach Full Story
