Lutsen: fire hall yes; fireworks no
The Lutsen Township annual meeting didn’t last long—in fact it was over before two scheduled speakers made it to the meeting. Cook County Commissioner Bruce Martinson and George Wilkes of the Cook County Local Energy Project were busy at the Tofte and Schroeder annual meetings and didn’t make it to the Lutsen Town Hall before the Lutsen meeting ended at 9:20 p.m. Full Story

Once again Paul James was called to moderate the annual Tofte township meeting, and once again he did a great job.

Alpine skiers tackle Montana mountains
Varsity alpine ski season wrapped up rather early–on February 16 this year. Members of the Cook County/Silver Bay alpine ski team weren’t ready to quit, so 17 ski team members, parents and siblings took a trip to the mountains near Bozeman, Montana during winter break February 19-24. Snowboarders were invited and even some of the team members and parents were seen on boards. Full Story
Viking girls progressing through playoffs
As expected, the Cook County girls’ team had little trouble with the Wrenshall Wrens on Thursday, March 3, winning 88-19.
The game was played in Duluth on a neutral court.
The Wrens came out fired up, taking a 3-0 lead over the Vikings, “But then we went on a nice 50-0 run to put the game away,” said Head Coach T.J. Super. Full Story
Season ends in semifinal game
The Cook County girls’ spectacular basketball season ended on Wednesday, March 9, in Hibbing in a Section 7A semifinal game against Mountain Iron-Buhl (MIB).
The morning after the game Head Coach T.J. Super said, “It was the worst day of the year. It always feels like this when you lose.” Full Story
